Stucke’s current project on Symbiosis State intersects between ideas within evolutionary biology, consciousness studies, philosophy, and the imagination. Primarily working within the mediums of painting and drawing, she considers her work artistic research, which involves interdisciplinary investigations within artistic production. Stucke challenges the dialogue between art and science by placing imagination within ideas of research.
Amber Stucke was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She has been living and working as an artist in Berkeley, California since 2004. She is a recent MFA graduate from the California College of the Arts in May 2011. Stucke received her BFA from Barat College in 2002 and has had additional studies at Goldsmith’s College in London and the The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Her thesis titled Embodying Symbiosis: A Philosophy of Mind in Drawing is published in an international academic journal called Consciousness, Literature and the Arts, which is based in the UK, April 2012 . Stucke is currently represented by the Electric Works Gallery in San Francisco.
